- Floor repairs — damaged, cracked, or missing boards cannot be repaired during this service
- Colour change — since we don’t sand to bare wood, the original stain colour cannot be changed

You Don't Need a Full Sand
If your floors have discoloured or faded patches, many homeowners assume a full sand is the only fix. In many cases, it isn't. Our colour correction process — built into our buff & recoat service — can restore colour uniformity without sanding down to bare wood.
How Colour Correction Works
Colour correction is not a spot treatment — it is an integral part of the full buff & recoat process. The entire floor is treated together, in this order:
The whole floor is lightly abraded — not just the faded areas. This creates the mechanical bond needed for the new finish to adhere properly.
A matching tone stain is applied to the discoloured patches, blending them back into the surrounding floor colour. This is done before the finish coat — on the buffed surface — so the stain bonds correctly.
The new top coat of water-based finish is applied across the whole floor — locking in the corrected colour and restoring a uniform sheen from wall to wall.
When It Works — and When It Doesn’t
Best results on darker floors. Colour correction works best on dark stained floors — dark browns, dark walnut, espresso, and similar deep tones. The matching stain blends naturally into these colours.
Not suitable for yellow, orange, or grey floors. Light yellow, honey oak, orange-toned, and grey floors are difficult to blend — yellow and orange tones don’t take matching stain well, and grey is equally hard to replicate consistently. If your floor falls into any of these colour ranges, a full sand & refinish is the better option.
Does not work on UV damage. UV fading from sun exposure changes the wood at a deeper level than surface wear. Colour correction cannot reliably fix UV-damaged floors — those require a full sand & refinish. We will assess your floors during the free estimate and tell you honestly which service is right.
